Lorde Offers Nirvana Tribute at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction (VIDEO)

Nirvana was inducted into the Hall of Fame on Thursday night, and who better to honor the group than rising star Lorde.

The 17-year-old "Royals" singer led a tribute to Nirvana that also included Joan Jett, Sonic Youth vocalist Kim Gordon, St. Vincent and the living members of Nirvana, bassist Krist Novoselic, drummer Dave Grohl and guitarist Pat Smear. Nirvana's induction into the Hall of Fame arrives 20 years after the group's lead vocalist, Kurt Cobain, committed suicide in 1994.

During Thursday's event, the performers each took on one of Nirvana's greatest hits. While Lorde took on the song "All Apologies," other performances included Jett's cover of "Smells Like a Teen Spirit." Moreover, Gordon performed "Aneurysm" while St. Vincent took on "Lithium."

In addition to the performances in Nirvana's honor, Cobain's widow, Courtney Love, and his mother Wendy O'Connor offered words of tribute, as did R.E.M's Michael Stipe.

"Nirvana captured lightning in a bottle," he told the New York Daily News. "The band pushed us forward towards our individual and collective potential."

Notably absent from the event was Cobain's daughter, Francis Bean. Love explained her 21-year-old daughter with the deceased singer was absent "because she's sick."

Meanwhile, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony at Brooklyn's Barclays Center also saw KISS, Pater Gabriel, Hall & Oates, the E Street Band and Yusef Islam, formerly Cat Stevens, gain entry to the hall of fame.

Linda Ronstadt, who is battling Parkinson's disease, was also inducted. The singer was unable to perform, but was honored with performances of her songs by Sheryl Crowe, Carrie Underwood, Bonnie Raitt, EmmyLou Harris and Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks. All four collaborated for a performance of Ronstadt's song "When Will I Be Loved."
