Recap of Last Friday's Mega Millions Drawing
Last Friday, August 26, the winning numbers were 10, 11, 31, 41 and 44, with a multiplier of 2x. The gold ball was 14. The estimated jackpot prize was $76 million with a one-time cash-out value at $52 million after taxes and other deductions.
While no one won the grand prize, three lucky players were able to match all five white balls to win $1 million each. One of the lucky winners played with the megaplier option to win $2 million. The winning tickets were bought from the states of California, Michigan and Maryland, according to the Mega Millions website.
Meanwhile, 27 winners were able to match four white balls and the gold ball for $5,000 each, while six of them opted to play with the megaplier for a total prize of $10,000 each. More than 1,600 players were able to match three white balls plus the gold ball to take home $50 each, while nearly 27,000 matched three white balls for $5 each. Over a million players were able to win the $2 and $1 prizes.
How to play the Mega Millions
For aspiring millionaires, playing the Mega Millions is quite simple. For a $1 ticket, players can submit five numbers from one to 75, and another number from one to 15. They win by matching the numbers on one row of their ticket with the numbers drawn on the lottery date. For $2 more, players can choose the Megaplier option which multiplies the players' non-jackpot winnings by two to five times.
According to the Mega Millions website, the overall chances of winning a prize is one out of 15. And there are nine ways to do so; from matching all five white balls and the gold ball to win the grand prize, all five white balls to win a million dollars, and to just matching the gold ball to win $1.
The odds of winning the jackpot are one in 259 million, according to Mega Millions. If someone does win the jackpot, the game pot will reset itself to $15 million and will continue to grow by $5 million each drawing where no one wins the grand prize. So far, the last winning draw was July 23 with a grand prize of $15 million. The lottery can be played in 46 localities or 44 states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Mega Millions are drawn twice every week, Tuesday and Friday, at 11:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
