Miami Heat News: Wade Passes Bulls Great Scottie Pippen in NBA All-Time Scoring List
Miami had a memorable win against Eastern Conference rival Toronto Raptors on Sunday, blowing them out 96-76 in South Beach; but the game resulted to more than just a convincing victory for Eric Spoelstra's team because guard and longtime Heat player Dwyane Wade passed former Chicago Bulls great Scottie Pippen on the league's all-time scoring list.
Wade achieved the feat in the third quarter after knocking down a three-pointer, officially putting him as the 51st player with the most points of all time. The popular Miami player contributed 12 points in the rout.
Wade's scoring output so far in his career is listed at 18,944, which in itself is already an achievement considering that guard out of Marquette is only 33 years old. He has four more points to Scottie Pippen on the list who scored majority of his points as a member of the Chicago Bulls.
Meanwhile, Wade also is listed ninth among all active players and is the all-time scoring leader for the Heat franchise. In order to grab the 50th place, he only needs to score 61 points. The current rank is held by Dale Ellis.
This season will certainly be something that Wade can make the most especially with the rejuvenated Miami lineup. Chris Bosh has returned from a health scare and the team's guard lineup significantly improved with the addition of Goran Dragic, Gerald Green, and Tyler Johnson.
But aside from playoff aspirations, Wade should also pay attention to what he can achieve this season. If he can average around 22 points each game this season, he may be able to outdo basketball greats in the scoring list, including Tom Chambers, Antawn Jamison, and John Stockton. He can reach up to 39th on the list after the regular season.
The Heat is currently at seventh place in the East and will play the Los Angeles Lakers in the American Airlines Arena tonight.
