Michael Phelps in USA Olympics Swimming Trials 2016: Swimmer Competes for First Event on Tuesday; Schedule, TV Info and Streaming
After dropping the 200-meter freestyle competition, Olympic medalist Michael Phelps is expected to compete for his first event in the USA Swimming Olympics Trials on Tuesday, June 28, 2016.
First Event for the Swimming Trials
It will be the 200-meter butterfly for Phelps which will happen alongside the women's 200 freestyle and 200 individual medley. The 30-year-old Phelps will swim for the first time in the Olympic trials for the event where his Olympic career began.
According to Swimming World Magazine, Phelps is hoping to defend his record for the category at 1:52.94. This will also be the fifth time that he would try out in the trials for the Olympics where he has already earned 22 medals.
Plans of Retirement
This year is said to be Phelps' last try in the Olympics as he is already planning to retire and volunteer to assist coach Bob Bowman with his swimmers and entries to the Olympics.
As he prepares for a life after the Olympics, Phelps said that he also plans to start a business and focus more on his foundation that teaches children about water safety. He also vowed to take care of his family especially his son Boomer Robert Phelps.
"This is a new journey. I truly can't wait for the next chapter of my life. And I don't know the last time I've said that," the swimmer said.
What are the Events Lined Up for Tuesday?
Fans are certainly excited to witness Phelps swim again in the USA Swimming trials. Tuesday's schedule starts at 11 a.m. for the women's 200-meter freestyle and individual medley and the 200-meter men's butterfly and will run until 2 p.m. The preliminaries and finals for those events will also follow at night.
