Milwaukee Bucks Injury Rumors: Greivis Vasquez Out at Least Three Months After Surgery
The Milwaukee Bucks were a surprise last season with everyone not expecting them to reach the playoffs. But this year, Jason Kidd's team hasn't kept their momentum from last season going. They're a good squad in paper with all those young guys, but their main issue is their defensive identity.
Greg Monroe and Michael Carter-Williams are expected to shoulder the offensive responsibilities, but both seem to be defensive liabilities. There's one important player who may well be the best wing defender, but he's going to be out for some time. We're talking about backup point guard Greivis Vasquez.
On Tuesday, the team announced that Vasquez is going to miss some time, three months at least, after undergoing a successful surgery to remove a bone spur in his right foot. The college star from Maryland will have to sit out, together with another guard, Jerryd Bayless, which means that the team needs immediate help at the guard spot.
Vasquez is currently averaging modest numbers for the squad — 7.1 points, 4.4 assists, and 2.3 rebounds, but he's not expected to play for three months or even more. While his offensive contributions won't sorely be missed, his defensive presence on the court, as well as his on-court smarts, won't be compensated.
Kidd talked about his guard's resiliency. "He's going to compete, hurt, or healthy. He tried and did everything he could, but it just didn't work out, so the next step was to have surgery," the head coach said.
The Venezuelan player is owed $6.6 million for this season, but he's going to be one of the several unrestricted free agents this summer, which means he may opt to explore free agency for bigger contracts.
However, six-year veteran's main concern as of the moment is to recover quick to be able to play the remaining games of the regular season.
