Milwaukee Bucks Rumors: Head Coach Jason Kidd to Undergo Hip Surgery, Out Indefinitely
The current NBA season has had its share of odd scenarios and events, and the news about Milwaukee Bucks head coach Jason Kidd undergoing hip surgery is another one of those weird instances; that's because he is the second coach to go under the same procedure this season after Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, who by the way is currently recovering.
With that in mind, Kerr is expected to be out for some time with general manager John Hammond announcing that assistant coach Joe Prunty will temporarily be assuming the role. Kidd, for his part, released a statement acknowledging Prunty as the rightful substitute. "I have every confidence in Joe to lead our team during my absence. Joe has many years of coaching experience both in the NBA and in international competition," the ailing head coach said.
Kidd said that though he tried to avoid contemplating about surgery, he no longer could go against it after a consultation with a renowned doctor, who told him that there is no better course of action than going under the knife.
The Bucks are currently 13th in the mediocre Eastern Conference; a position the entire organization didn't expect to be in after high hopes in the offseason. Kidd is coaching his second year in Milwaukee and his debut season with the team was a decent one. The pressure of taking this bunch deeper into the playoffs might be taking its toll not only on Kidd but the rest of the coaching staff as well. After defeating the reigning NBA champions Golden State Warriors, they haven't sustained the momentum, eventually losing to teams with losing records.
Prunty is a well-traveled and experienced coach in the NBA, having spent time with Cleveland, Portland, San Antonio, and Dallas in a 20-year career. Aside from his job as an assistant coach of the Bucks, he also is the coach of the Great Britain men's basketball team.
