'Minecraft' Nintendo 3DS Edition Gets A Physical Release Date

After "Minecraft" arrived on the Nintendo 3DS last month, Nintendo has kept the other half of its promise with the release of a physical edition of the game. Retail 3DS versions of the massively popular sandbox game will be making their way to store shelves next month.

The company shared the news via a post on the Nintendo of America Twitter page along with an image of the physical release's box art. Interestingly, the art also features an amiibo logo which probably suggests the range will be supported in the game via an update. However, there is a chance that this could be an error so fans will probably have to wait for an official announcement.

The Nintendo 3DS version "Minecraft" came as a surprise announcement during last month's Nintendo Direct presentation. The New 3DS version of Mojang's popular sandbox game features the standard Survival and Creative modes, as well as five skin packs, two new texture packs, and more.

The New 3DS version gives players the option of controlling the game with either touch or traditional button controls. Additionally, players can also utilize the touch screen to view the map, access their inventory, and craft various items. However, the game is only compatible the "New" versions of the 3DS and 2DS systems, and does not work with the original 3DS, 3DS XL, or 2DS models.

The team behind "Minecraft" recently released new skin packs featuring the characters from the series "Stranger Things." The skins are inspired by some of the show's beloved characters, including Hopper, Mike, Eleven, Dustin, Lucas and Will. There is, however, speculation that they might have some spoilers in them so series fans beware. The skins are now available for download on all mobile platforms, as well as PC and consoles, for $3 or 490 in-game coins via the "Minecraft" Marketplace.
