'Minecraft' Releases 'Journey To The West' Skins; Patch 1.8.8 Update Brings New Features
Developer Mojang has brought in some new treats to its sandbox video game "Minecraft" in celebration of the Chinese New Year which is marked as the "Year of the Monkey." As noted in Microsoft's official blog site, Mojang has released a skin pack that is inspired by the characters of the Chinese classic "Journey to the West."
It is only available for "Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition" and "Minecraft: Pocket Edition" though. The post also noted that the new skins will allow gamers to play as the Monkey King. There are a lot of other characters too like Princess Iron Fan and Lord Hundred-Eyes. With these characters, gamers can go on an adventure to unearth "long-forgotten dungeons" or work together, along with the disciples, to save villages from vicious monsters and bring peace.
The pack is available for $1.99 each but Red Boy and Guanyin are free-to-download skins. Other characters which are part of the skin pack include Bull Demon King, Jade Emperor, Monk Pig, Lady Earth Flow, Spider Demon, Pale Bone Demon, Black Wind Demon, Xuanzang and Friar Sand, as detailed in Destructoid.

To those who are not aware yet about what "Journey to the West" is all about, Neurogadget detailed that it's a novel that follows the journey of the Buddhist monk Xuanzang and his companions. It tells of several folkloric elements.
Aside from the skin pack, Yibada reported that Mojang has also recently released a new update of the game for all platforms. Patch 1.8.8 is said to be packed with new features including ice plains, red deserts, dark forests and a whole lot more. It's also detailed that there are new territories to explore, allowing gamers to discover hidden features in new worlds like stones and new trees, including dark oak and acacia, that will bring some newness into the game.
