MLB Trade Rumors 2015: Which Team to Get Carlos Gonzalez?
There are at least three teams that have signified their intentions of getting the services of Venezuelan baseball outfielder Carlos Gonzalez. The left-handed hitter, who currently plays for the Colorado Rockies, is a hot commodity right now, and there's good reason why many teams are looking to get him.
The 30-year-old is a two-time All-Star and a three-time Gold Glove winner, who played his first year with the Oakland Athletics before eventually settling in with the Rockies all his years as a professional baseball player.
One of the several teams pursuing him is the Kansas City Royals, who are expecting to see Alex Rios and Alex Gordon to go somewhere else. With both gone, the team will certainly need a reliable outfielder to fill the gap and there is no doubt that Gonzalez fits the bill.
Gonzalez is currently owed two more years, worth $17 million and $20 million for 2016 and 2017. That kind of money, though, may be a major hindrance for any deal that the Royals are willing to entertain with Gonzalez on the table.
Another team with the prospect of getting Gonzalez is the St. Louis Cardinals. The team is expected to see free agent Jason Heyward leave to join another team, and order to compensate his loss, signing Gonzalez makes perfect sense. As a matter of fact, Gonzalez may actually become a much better player for St. Louis compared to what Heyward has become with the team. The only issue is that what can the Cardinals offer to the Rockies in return? It's pretty sure money won't be the only consideration.
Finally, the Washington Nationals is the third team hoping to land a big-time player like Gonzalez. In fact, they've been pushing hard as of late, with several sources saying that the team is already in talks with Colorado for a trade involving Gonzalez and Charlie Blackmon. Winning this trade battle should be very good news for the Nationals who are looking to get someone to improve their depth.
