Moto Z Play Leaks, Updates and News: Smartphone to Be Released on September 6? Specs, Features and Hardware Confirmed
It's a good thing the smartphone market can barely keep its lid on leaks and rumors, because now we get to anticipate one of the hottest new phones coming on September 6: Lenovo and Motorola's Moto Z Play.
After a series of leaked images and specs, the Moto Z Play now appears to have gone through a series of tests from benchmark website, GFXBench, further confirming its existence and upcoming release. For the newly-initiated, GFXBench is a well-established cross-platform graphics and computing benchmark that measures performance, stability, and quality.
Results of the benchmark
The results were pretty much in line with the specs leaked earlier this month. The Z Play will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box and will be sporting a 5.5 inch display with 1920p x 1080p resolution. It is powered by an octacore processor at 2.0 GHz alongside the Qualcomm Adreno 360 GPU, and packs 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage.
In the camera department, it boasts of 16 MP and 5 MP front and rear shooters, respectively. Another series of leaked photos revealed that the Z Play will have a 3.5-mm earphone jack, unlike its contemporaries in the Z Series.
Hardware front
Meanwhile, the Z Play is built with metal and glass and will support the 16-pin connectors at the back of the device where the Motorola's Moto Mods accessories can be connected. The Moto Mods are magnetic accessories attached to the back of the device to make it more like a multi-tool.
So far, we've got the Incipio offGRID Power Pack, which provides an additional 20 hours of battery life before the phone's battery kicks in. Then there's the JBL SoundBoost, which acts like a portable speaker. And lastly, the Moto Insta-Share Projector, which allows you to project a total of 70 inches onto a flat screen.
It is juiced up by a 3,510 mAH battery, making it a slim but powerful mid-range smartphone along the price range of the Asus Zenfone 3.
Carrier and release date
A report from GSMArena speculated that the Z Play will be coming to Verizon, and will apply the Droid edition to it. It is expected to be identical to the vanilla Moto Z Play, and a series of leaks bared that there's a lot of Verizon bloatware pre-installed in the Z Play, such as the My Verizon, NFL Mobile, VZ Navigator, and VZ Protect.
With the new onslaught of leaks and confirmed rumors, mobile website PhoneArena guessed that the Z Play could be out as early as September 6. And with the Z Play's impressive specs, it's sure to become a hit in the fourth quarter of 2016.
