'Mrs. Doubtfire' Sequel Announced, Fans Flood Twitter

Mrs. Doubtfire fans across the world are celebrating news that the film will be made into a sequel over two decades after its initial release.

The Oscar-winning comedy hit theaters in 1993 starring Robin Williams, Sally Field and Pierce Brosnan. Although many years have passed since its release, reports this week indicated that Fox 2000 is reuniting Williams and director Chris Columbus for a Mrs. Doubtfire 2. David Berenbaum, the writer on Elf, is penning the script, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Just hours after news of the Mrs. Doubtfire sequel broke, the film became a trending topic on Twitter with fans posting about their jubilation.

"Can't believe there's gunna be a Mrs. Doubtfire 2, if second is as good at first, I'll be loving it," Victoria posted.

Britt added, "Sequel to Mrs. Doubtfire!? This just beat the excitement of a 4 days weekend in the UK!"

"I heard there was going to be a Mrs Doubtfire 2 and nothing will make me mad for the rest of the day," Cindy wrote.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Doubtfire 2 is not the only film to be reinvigorated several years after its release. Ghostbusters 3 is reportedly also in the works, despite the original film having first hit the theaters in 1984. Moreover, Beetlejuice 2 is also rumored to be in the works, but a sequel for 1994's Dumb and Dumber has been confirmed by both of its stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels. Filming is already underway for Dumb and Dumber 2, and the comedy is expected in theaters sometime later this year.

"We're having so much fun, it's like, more fun than it was before," Carrey said of filming the sequel, according to On The Red Carpet. "We're just having a blast getting back into the stuff and it just feels so good to have a character that only wears one thing all the time. Makes things real easy. It's great."
