NBA Trade Rumors 2015: Several teams interested in Shabazz Muhammad
The Minnesota Timberwolves are not giving in even if several teams have expressed interest in trading for Shabazz Muhammad. The team is facing the same inconsistency issues this year, but one of the few players who have shown great improvement is Muhammad, who eventually has lured the eyes of opposing coaches.
The Wolves for their part is riding on a whirlwind start of the season, losing head coach Flip Saunders after succumbing to cancer, having to win some games and lose some, Kevin Garnett showing signs of a second win, and of course, the injuries that keep haunting the team's playoff hopes.
Because the roster is filled with young talent, it is no surprise that many teams would want to talk to them in the hope of convincing the coaching staff and the front office to unload some of the young guys in exchange for proven veterans. One of those young guys is Muhammad.
Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski first reported about the interest in the former UCLA star, who averaged very improved numbers of 13.5 points and 4.1 rebounds last year before suffering a ligament tear in his left middle finger, forcing him to miss the remainder of the season.
However, it also looks like the Wolves aren't buying in to the idea of letting the 23-year old go, and it actually makes a lot of sense because the young player is full of potential, not to mention ridiculous athletic ability and court smarts. His minutes per game dropped from almost 23 minutes last season to 18 minutes this season, but it does not mean his value in the team is not appreciated.
There might be a possibility that Minnesota will eventually deal him, but not now. That would only make better sense once he is in the final year of his recently signed contract. The team's current wing rotation is filled with very great potential, led by Andrew Wiggins and Kevin Martin. But what makes Muhammad valuable to this team is the ability to play defense and provide hustle minutes when those offensive guys are off.
