NBA Trade Rumors: Why It's Logical to Trade DeMarcus Cousins

DeMarcus Cousins of the Sacramento Kings is one of the most promising big men in the league today. He's versatile, passionate, and very talented. However, he also comes in with a lot of emotion and sometimes it plays to his team's disadvantage, often getting technical fouls and ejections. He also argues with teammates and the coaching staff. But in spite of all the weaknesses, he's a prized possession that every team outside the Kings is craving for.

With that in mind, it shouldn't be any surprise that a team expresses interest in trading for him. While Sacramento isn't really that vocal in trading their franchise player, there's always room for consideration. And this is what other teams are certainly interested in.

According to an article from the Latin Post, the Kings have three very good reasons why they would want to trade Cousins right before the trade deadline next month, one of which is his ever increasing value.

Cousins labeled as being the best center in the league is hard to argue, especially with the decline of Dwight Howard in the offensive end. If Sacramento wants to get the most out of any deal involving him, they will have to do it right now because he's a hot commodity. The same might not be said two years from now. The 25-year-old is so gifted in his offensive arsenal that more than half of the teams in the league today are more than willing to sacrifice something in return. He still has two year left in his contract but with the kind of value he currently has, it may be too long to wait for two years. For Sacramento, trading him right now can mean rebuilding their franchise sooner than later.

Another reason why it makes sense for the Kings to trade him is because no matter how good he is, the fact remains that franchise hasn't been successful with him as the center of it all. After they drafted him in 2010 as the fifth overall, they haven't reached the playoffs. It's not because he's not good but it is more on the question of him being a good fit to the team.

Finally, the team might be due for a change, simple as that. Cousins is an offensive marvel and no center in the league can match his talent right now. But the Kings as a franchise has been struggling big time, with several players signing and going. Instead of making minor changes, why not change the focal point of the team?
