New England Patriots News and Rumors 2016: Rob Gronkowski Sets New NFL Record
The New England Patriots will proceed to the conference championships after defeating the Kansas City Chiefs in their divisional round matchup last Saturday. And the center of it all is tight end Rob Gronkowski.
The Patriots' main man is used to breaking records in the NFL and he once again did it by catching his eight career postseason touchdown. With it, he broke the previous record by one, with both Dave Casper and Vernon Davis making seven.
And there's no better way to achieve that feat than with quarterback Tom Brady helping. Early in the third quarter, Brady found Gronkowski in the corner of the end zone. The pass also was historical for Brady, who achieved his 17th career playoff game with at least two passing TDs.
The lethal combination of Brady and Gronkowski proved to be too much to handle for the Chiefs. The two had something to do for the team's seven completions and two touchdowns.
What's even more amazing is that the 26-year-old was actually questionable heading into the divisional round matchup due to a bruised right knee. He was not able to attend two practices for the team prior to the game, with several reports saying he received an injection for the knee issue. Interestingly, he was listed by the team on the injury list as suffering from a back injury.
The emphatic 27-20 win, though, showed that he was quite ready to play, something that may have caught the Chiefs off-guard. Early in the game, he already caught two passes that included his first touchdown grab.
With him and Tom Brady looking healthy, it should be a very interesting affair between the Patriots and the Broncos on Sunday. When Gronk is on top of his game, even the best defense in the league will have a hard time containing him.
