New England Patriots Roster Rumors: Steven Jackson Signs Deal

The New England Patriots couldn't prevent injuries to Dion Lewis and LeGarette Blount, both of which are out for the rest of the season. While the team could contend with James White, Brandon Bolden, and full back Joey Iosefa from the practice squad, there's no certainty as to how they could guarantee victories with them.

That's why signing former Falcons running back Steven Jackson makes a lot of sense. The team is reportedly already in agreement with Jackson for a one-year minimum salary contract.

Jackson is different among all those substitutes in the Pats' current roster for the simple reason that he's the more experienced player. But experience does not always translate to good performance though, shown by the fact that he only averaged a very mediocre 3.6 yards per carry in two seasons with the Falcons. Another gamble for New England in this deal is his age and the fact that he hasn't really played pro football since December of last year.

What the Pats are hoping for is that the 32-year-old will find another wind in New England. He's a good player, no doubt about that. But he should be better, should he want to extend his stay in the new team. He showed flashes of how great he can be with the Rams but he was younger back then.

The American football running back from Oregon State was originally drafted by St. Louis as the 24th overall in the 2004 NFL Draft. He played his best years as a pro with the franchise, eventually becoming the team's all-time leading rusher. He surpassed Eric Dickerson's record in an October 2010 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He will be joining a New England team as the only active running back in the league to have at least 10,000 rushing yards and 3,000 receiving yards.
