'New Girl' Season 5 Spoilers: EP Teases New Episodes
With the fifth season of "New Girl" already started, it looks as though fans of the series will be getting to see their favorite characters maturing in the episodes to come.
The creator of the series recently spoke to TV Guide about how the characters of the series will be progressing throughout the new season. According Liz Meriwether, the characters of "New Girl" will be growing up in the upcoming episodes.
One of the main happenings for season 5 is the engagement of Schmidt and Cece. Meriwether explained that after a season of their playful relationship, it seemed like the right time to progress it to another level. She stated, "There's been a lot of really funny stuff we've done over the years with them being incredibly immature, but it felt like the right moment to let them take steps forward. We've been having an amazing time this season growing the characters, and it's resulted in more comedy, not less comedy."

However, it was reported that the series' main character Jess, played by Zooey Deschanel, will not be present for most of the season. This was due to Deschanel being on maternity leave.
With that, Meriwether explained that the other characters of "New Girl" will be taking the center stage since Jess will be gone. Nevertheless, she reassured fans that the season will still be worth it. She added, "I'm glad Zooey took the time she needed, and it was a great challenge in the fifth season to have to do New Girl without the New Girl. I'm really proud of the episodes."
Meanwhile, it was revealed that a new girl will be joining the group, while Jess is away. Megan Fox will be taking the role of Reagan, who will be taking Jess' place in the apartment. It was said that Reagan is one of Cece's former friends.
"New Girl" season 5 airs every Wednesday.
