New Orleans Pelicans Injury News: Anthony Davis Leaves Game After Suffering Concussion

If there's one player that the New Orleans Pelicans just can't afford to lose right now, it's All-Star forward Anthony Davis. That's why when the 22-year-old went down with a blow to the head and concussion in their Monday night loss to Houston, everyone was on the edge of their seats.

Davis took an accidental blow to the head after a collision with teammate Tyreke Evans in the second quarter of the Pelicans' 112-111 defeat at the hands of the Rockets. He did not return to the game, prompting rumors that he suffered a concussion. It was later confirmed by the team, saying that the play was unfortunate but unintentional. Before leaving, Davis was having a hard time against the defense of Trevor Ariza, having only produced nine points.

The incident happened when both Davis and Evans were trying to get a defensive rebound. Evans' elbow hit Davis on the head. He fell to the floor as the Rockets got hold of the loose ball and scored on their possession. After that, the game was halted, while Davis was examined by team trainers. He was able to get up on his own and walked directly to the team's locker room.

After the game, New Orleans head coach Alvin Gentry talked about the incident. "I'm sure he'll go through the concussion protocol. We'll find out later on exactly what the situation is," he said.

After a promising buildup to this season and with Davis' All-Star caliber performance last season, the Pelicans were hopeful of achieving a winning season this year. However, it hasn't really been pretty for them. Currently sitting 12th in the Western Conference, they're running out of time midway through the season.

One of the few bright spots for the team is Davis. He is currently ninth in scoring at 23.3 points a game and second in blocks with 2.47. If the Pelicans lose him long term, their chance of climbing up to the standings will go from slim to none.
