New 'Professor Layton' Game Coming Next Year Alongside New Show

Japanese video game developer Level 5 has confirmed that a new "Professor Layton" game is currently in the works. Alongside the new game, the series will also receive an anime adaptation which follows the story of Hershel and Luke on their many wacky adventures.

The upcoming game is slightly tweaked version of "Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy" which was released earlier this year. The game was originally launched to mobile devices and features a new protagonist in the form of Professor Hershel Layton's daughter, private detective Katrielle Layton.

"Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy" is directed by Akihiro Hino and features character designs by Takuzo Nagano with music by Tomohito Nishiura. The game's puzzles were designed by Kuniaki Iwanami who replaced previous designer Akira Tago following his death in March 2016. The game is set to arrive on the Nintendo 3DS this Oct. 6, 2017.

Together with the new "Professor Layton" game, Level-5 and Dentsu Inc. will be releasing a 26-episode anime series based on the franchise. The anime stems from an initiative by Level 5 to expand the series into a variety of content that includes "animated products" as well as "experimental live events."

The anime adaptation has yet to receive a release date however it would be safe to say that it will be ready sometime next year. When it was first released back in 2007, the series was praised to be the first DS games to have full motion video that were, "tolerable." The game's videos were even compared to those of the famed Studio Ghibli which makes the announcement of an anime adaptation not that surprising.

Aside from the "Professor Layton" series, Level 5 also confirmed that planning for a 2018 comeback for its soccer-RPG series with a reboot of "Inazuma Eleven Ares" which is set to arrive next year. The company also confirmed that the third season of its "Yo-Kai Watch" anime will be arriving in North America and Europe in early 2018.
