New York Jets Roster News 2015: Dee Milliner Activated, Willie Colon Placed on IR

Quarterback Dee Milliner has been practicing with the Jets for a couple of weeks now, eventually getting rewarded when team officials announced that he has been added to the 53-man roster before the Wednesday deadline. However, the move comes with some kind of risk because the team had to place Willie Colon on the injured reserve, which means that his season is all but over.

"Dee" is the ninth overall pick of the Jets in the 2013 NFL Draft. Before going pro, he played at Alabama in college and was a consensus All-American a year before joining the draft. He played just 16 games, though, after getting drafted and is expected to have some minutes when the Jets play the Bills on Thursday night. Barring any problems, Thursday's game will be Milliner's first appearance this season.

The good news for the 24-year-old is that New York is in dire need of players, especially with starting cornerback Antonio Cromartie suffering from a left thigh bruise, although head coach Todd Bowles earlier hinted that Cromartie will be replaced in the starting lineup by either Buster Skrine or Marcus Williams. Likewise, the team is also facing shortage in safeties but Milliner isn't expected to play the position.

Colon meanwhile is no stranger to injuries, battling a recurring knee problem for quite some time now. The same injury is haunting him this season, eventually missing the team's game against the Dolphins during Week 4. He managed to return to the team against the Redskins after the Jets' bye, but his knee once again bothered him.

Because he wasn't available or physically fit to practice last Tuesday, Bowles knows that his offensive guard may not be able to see action on Thursday.

The Jets signed the veteran to a one-year deal a little over two years ago, before eventually signing to another one year contract after that. He currently is holding on to a minimum salary benefit contract.
