New York Knicks Trade Rumors 2016: Is Derrick Rose Going to New York?
It has been quite a long time since Derrick Rose dominated the floor for the Chicago Bulls. It's not that the passion's gone or whatever, but it all points to him having been consumed by all sorts of injuries over the past few years. The former MVP isn't the same player anymore, and this season is a proof of that.
With a budding new star coming out of Rose's shadows, it seems fitting that the point guard may finally seek a trade. Jimmy Butler is good friends with Rose and they form an incredible backcourt for the Bulls. However, the team is currently dealing with different internal issues, and the fact that Butler is quickly becoming the voice of this team means that Rose's place as the leader is already being challenged.
In light of all the rumors surrounding Rose, perhaps the most interesting one is the talk about him going to New York. Well, trading for him also makes a lot of sense for the Knicks who do not have a reliable point guard in the roster. For Knicks fans, it would be a very fascinating thought to see Carmelo Anthony, Kristaps Porzingis, and Rose in the court. That trio would be enough to change New York's fortunes in the postseason.
After winning the MVP award in the 2010-20011 season, Rose has visibly struggled to keep up, no thanks to several major knee injuries he suffered along the way. During the 2012 NBA playoffs against the Sixers, he suffered from a torn ACL on his left knee that required surgery. That injury forced him to miss the entire 2012-2013 season. He again suffered another knee injury, this time on his right meniscus in 2013, prompting him to miss the remaining games of the season once again.
Rose's contract expires in 2017, becoming a free agent by then. However, there is a good chance he or the Bulls can no longer wait for that time and ultimately decide for a trade. But will he go to New York in case that happens?
