Nexus 5 Sales Halted Temporarily, to Continue Sales Next Year
Google's 2013 flagship phone, the Nexus 5, has been temporarily taken off the market for the rest of the year, but will resume sales come 2015.
The Nexus 5 was warmly received last year and continued to do well in the market this year, so interested consumers were surprised when news came about that Google was discontinuing production of the Nexus 5. A Google spokesperson reached out to Tech Radar and claimed that "once they are gone, they're gone."
The phase out was also evident as Google Play Store has listed the phone as out of stock and some stores are emptying their inventories of the Nexus 5, selling out all the white and pseudo-red versions and still trying to sell out the black variant.

However, Google has reached out to websites and media outlets and said that the Nexus 5 will still be available next year. Google will continue to sell the Nexus 5 at the first quarter of 2015 via the Google Play Store and select retail stores.
It's not just the Nexus 5 that has been halted in the market and in Google Play Stores, as its successor the Nexus 6 is also listed as unavailable or at least soon to be out of stock.
The Nexus 6 was initially released with Google stamping on a limited availability scheme on the unit, and while Google shipped out models weekly, it quickly sold out so few of the Nexus 6 is available and few units are shipped in between.
With its predecessor being halted, there is no news on when the Nexus 6 will pick back up.
For consumers still interested in availing of the units, they could reach out to mobile carriers that have bundles that come with the phone.
However, mobile carriers might also move on to other flagship devices, axing all their Nexus units in favor of what's new out on the market and make it difficult to avail of the Nexus handsets.
