'Night In The Woods' Mobile Version Announced

Hit indie game "Night in the Woods" will be getting a mobile version. This was announced via the game's official Twitter account along with the "2018" release date.

Along with the tweet were screenshots of the game on what appears to be an iPhone despite having no mention of Android or iOS compatibility. However, given the popularity of both platforms, it's very likely that the game will make its way to both.

Developed by indie studio Infinite Fall, the quirky game began its life as a successful Kickstarter campaign like many indie titles. Studio co-founders Alec Holowka and Scott Benson set up a US$50,000 funding goal, which was reached in only 26 hours. Additional funding allowed the studio to hire more talent including animator Charles Huettner and developer Adam Saltsman.

"Night in the Woods" follows a 20-year-old cat named Mae Borowski who returns to her hometown of Possum Springs after dropping out of college. However, upon her arrival, she begins uncovering its dark secrets.

As Mae, players can run, jump, and learn other mechanics that allow them to explore Possum Springs. Along the way, they meet other anthropomorphic animals to which interacting with affects the outcome of the story.

The game has done well both commercially and critically having received praise for its smart writing and its characters. Many also highlighted the way the game deals with sensitive themes like mental illness.

It's probably not that surprising that Infinite Fall decided to port the game to mobile given that it doesn't require much dexterity to play. Its hardware requirements are also very minimal making it ripe for a mobile port. However, the development team came out right off the bat revealing that it wouldn't be available on the Nokia N-Gage.

Can't wait for the mobile version? "Night in the Woods" is currently available for the PlayStation 4, PC, Mac, and Linux.
