Nintendo Announces That New Amiibos Will Include Street Fighter's Ryu And Final Fantasy's Cloud
Nintendo fans will be happy to know that new amiibo figures, including Ryu from the "Street Fighter" franchise, Cloud Strife from the "Final Fantasy" franchise, and Roy from the "Fire Emblem" franchise, will be available in the United States on March 18, 2016.
The announcement was made during the Nintendo Direct briefing on Dec. 15. The new wave of amiibo figures were shown during the 35-minute broadcast, which was dedicated to the Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS. The event confirmed leaks from November that detailed the characters and the release dates of the new amiibos.
Joining Cloud, Roy, and Ryu in the new amiibo line-up are Bayonetta from the "Bayonetta" series, Corrin of "Fire Emblem Fates," and the R.O.B. with Famicom colors. The announcement follows previous reports that all Smash Bros. fighters will have their own amiibos.

The next wave of amiibos, which will be made available on January 22, include Lucas of "Mother 3," and Mr. Resetti, Blathers, Kicks, and Celeste from the "Animal Crossing" series. An amiibo of the Shovel Knight from the game of the name same is also included in this line-up. The Shovel Knight amiibo launched this month in Europe.
The amiibo of Gold Mega Man from the "Mega Man" franchise will be released in February. Roy, Ryu, and R.O.B. amiibos drop in March, along with the amiibos of Midna and Wolf Link from "The Legend of Zelda."
Amiibos for the other Animal Crossing characters, including Kapp'n, Rover, Timmy Nook, and Tom Nook are also set to be released, though no release dates have been announced.
Nintendo released its first line of figures on Nov. 21 last year. Earlier this year, the company reported that at least 21 million amiibos have been sold worldwide.
More information, including store exclusivity and prices, are yet to be announced.
