Nintendo NX Release Date Not Yet Announced, Hardware Not A Successor To Wii U
One of the many things that avid gamers are waiting for is the announcement of the release date of the Nintendo NX. Apparently, until now, the Japanese video game company has not made any official reveal yet regarding its next product.
As for now, fans rely on rumors, with several of them suggesting that the upcoming console will be released sometime in 2016. Yibada reported that it could happen in the second half of 2016 as mass production will begin March of next year. But since the company has not made any sort of confirmation yet, it's best to take the current information with a pinch of salt.
In other news, Design & Trend reported that Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima teased that the upcoming Nintendo NX will be not be a successor to the ailing Wii U. Instead, they are offering a new and different experience to fans which he hopes will push them to make a move to the newer platform.

"It's something where we have to move away from those platforms in order to make it something that will appeal to our consumer base," Kimishima stated. He did not, however, provide any details about the console specs.
According to N4BB, perhaps more details will be released during the E3 conference in June 2016. The source also cited that Nintendo filed for a patent on Feb. 10, 2015. That move is speculated to be a preliminary version of the NX. The source also mentioned that the patent was connected to a console design that comes with a controller with its own screen, which is quite the same to Wii U's current controller.
A notable difference with the designs released though is that it did not come with an optical disk drive. This indicates that the games could be downloaded via the internet, or possible through an external drive just like in the Nintendo 64.
