Nintendo Switch Now Allows Transfer Of Save And User Data
Nintendo Switch owners can now transfer user and save data from one Switch console to another. This was among the features included in the recent 4.0 software update for the hybrid console's system.
For a while, Switch owners have been requesting data backup functionality for their device. While this isn't what most people were waiting for, it's definitely a step in the right direction.
Now, for those who have been sharing a Switch with a friend or sibling and are now able to buy themselves, getting a brand new console doesn't mean starting all over again. Also, aside from saved progress, they can also transfer eShop purchases tied to their specific Nintendo account.
Before Nintendo Switch owners can transfer their data, however, there are a number of things they must prepare beforehand.
First off, both the console their profile is currently on (the source console) and the console they wish to transfer it to (the target console) must be with them in person. The consoles also need to have the latest 4.0 software update installed, connected to the internet, and plugged into a power source.
The target console must also have no more than seven user accounts as that is the maximum amount that can be supported. And finally, they must ensure that the target console has enough memory space available. If not, it might be a good idea to have an SD card in hand.
After the necessary preparations are done, simply enter the system settings of the source console, select "Users" and then "Transfer Your User and Save Data." After which simply hit next twice and then select source console to confirm that the console is the console they are moving their data from.
For the target console, simply repeat the same process to confirm that it is the target console. The source console will then search for the target console and after it finds it, hit transfer on the source console and the data will begin to move over.
The process requires both consoles and unfortunately, this doesn't help users recover lost data. For now, users will have to wait for future updates to the Nintendo Switch.
