Oakland Raiders Injury Rumors: Jon Condo on Reserve List with Shoulder Injury

Another casualty of the NFL's injury bug is Oakland Raiders long snapper Jon Condo, who the team announced to be out for the remaining games of the season due to an injured shoulder. To make up for his absence, the team also announced the signing of Thomas Gafford.

The Raiders got a surprising 15-12 victory against the Broncos, but at the expense of Condo, who is considered a major contributor to the team. As a matter of fact, his injury was the primary deciding factor for Oakland to instead go for two points after a touchdown, in which they were supposed to be going for PAT to give them a guaranteed four-point lead. They failed in the revised attempt and Condo left the game.

He hurt the shoulder while attempting to recover a muffed punt after a touchdown by teammate Mychal Rivera. He immediately proceeded to the locker room in order to be subjected for further evaluation.

The 34-year-old is one of the very few NFL players who managed to play long stretches without getting injured. Well, he hasn't missed one for the Raiders since 2007. So this injury will not only stop his streak, he also will have to accept that he may no longer be healthy enough to play for the season's remaining games.

The signing of the 32-year-old Gafford, on the other hand, will give the team some sigh of relief. He briefly played for the Chicago Bears before the team decided to cut him at the end of the regular season. But most of his years in professional football were played in Kansas City for the Chiefs. He is a reliable replacement for Condo, though, having played 11 games for the Bears.

Even if he insisted he could return and play through it, head coach Jack Del Rio didn't want to risk anything, putting him on the injured reserve.
