Oculus Rift CEO Tells Sony to Solve Motion Sickness Before Releasing Project Morpheus
The market for virtual reality headsets haven't quite gotten off to a start yet as the Oculus Rift is still to see a retail release. The same goes for Sony's Project Morpheus, with the company reporting that their VR headset is only 85 percent complete. Oculus CEO had some words of warning though as the company is prepping for a public release.
Brendan Iribe, Oculus CEO, welcomes competition – namely Sony Computer Entertainment – but gave out some advice regarding the release of their own VR headset.
"We're really looking forward to this as an industry that takes off. A number of companies will come in, even companies we haven't heard of yet two or three or five years down the road," Iribe said during a Web Summit conference in Dublin earlier this week.
"At the same time we're a little worried about some of the bigger companies putting out a product that isn't quite ready. That elephant in the room is disorientation and motion sickness," he adds.
Of course, this comes from experience with Iribe saying that they've solved these issues with their own VR headset.
"We're encouraging other companies, particularly the big consumer companies, to not put out a product until they've solved that problem," Iribe states.
Also, Oculus has invited Sony to come and see their latest Rift prototype, requesting that they make a product that's as good or close to it.
In the meantime, Sony is preparing for the Playstation Experience Event in December and has revealed a list of games and exhibitors. The Project Morpheus will also be making an appearance during the event and while it's unlikely that Sony will announce a release date, attendees would be able to try out the headset themselves.
