'Once Upon a Time' Season 5 Spoilers: Emma to Return from Darkness

"Once Upon a Time" is set to return in March next year for the second half of season 5, and Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) will finally return after breaking free from the darkness.

Jennifer Morrison recently spoke with Mashable and gave fans a sneak peek into Emma Swan's future after the midseason finale of "Once Upon a Time." The actress revealed that the heartbreaking tragedy was planned by Rumpel (Robert Carlyle) all along, according to Christian Today (CT).

In the midseason finale, Killian (Colin O'Donoghue) sacrificed himself, thinking he could help expel the darkness from Emma and the other Dark Ones. The truth is, Rumpel just wanted to be the sole Dark One in Storybrooke. After learning of the deception, Emma traveled with Rumpel in the Underworld to search for Killian, the report details.

In a preview clip for the show's return episode, several characters from the past are seen. As Emma travels to the Underworld, she will meet her mother Cora (Barbara Hershey). Prince Henry (Tony Perez), Peter Pan (Robbie Kay), The Blind Witch (Emma Caulfield), Sidney Glass (Giancarlo Esposito), Milah (Rachel Shelley), and Cruella de Vil (Victoria Smurfit) will also return to the series, Realty Today reports.

Meanwhile, Morrison said her character will return to her "savior mode."

"Her savior magic is intact. There is a mention that in the initial arrival in the underworld, anyone who's dealing with magic is shaken a little bit," CT quotes Morrison's statement in the interview. "But Emma sinks into hers pretty quick. So she's back into true savior Emma form in terms of magic pretty quickly."

There are some fans speculating that Emma might also meet Neal (Michael Raymond-James) during her trip to the Underworld, but this has not yet been confirmed. Co-creator Adam Horowitz hinted that the characters will face a situation in which they will encounter their past and present, the report relays.

"Once Upon a Time" will be back for its midseason premiere on Mar. 6, 2016 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
