'Once Upon A Time' Season 5B News, Update: Showrunners Elaborate On Theory of Regina As The New Savior
Long before the current fifth season of ABC's hit fairy tale drama TV series "Once Upon A Time" premiered this year, there have been rumors saying that with Emma's (Jennifer Morrison) turning into the Dark Swan, it would be the Evil Queen/ Regina Mills (Lana Parrilla) who will be taking over as the new hero in the story. But from what these recent reports suggested, it appears that it won't be the case.
While the show is still gearing up for its slated return to the small screens for the second half of Season 5, OUAT co-creators sat down with the people from Entertainment Weekly to discuss the "Regina as the next Savior" story arc.
According to Edward Kitsis: "I feel like that kind of got wrapped up in Camelot in a sense that she just did it to buy them time."
Kitsis clarified that despite the act, that doesn't make her the Savior. According to him, all Regina did was to try to keep Emma from using Dark magic. She also let Arthur (Liam Garrigan) know what was happening.
"I don't think it was ever really anything than just that," the showrunner maintained.
However, this doesn't mean that she won't be sharing the limelight with Emma when they head towards the Underworld to save Hook and save Storybrooke. As Kitsis added, Regina and Emma will be "working together" to carry out the heroic plan.
Horowitz chimed in that the two will even use magic for this purpose.
Speaking of Hook (Colin O'Donoghue), who sacrificed himself for the good of Storybrooke, EW asked the duo if there'd be a chance for them to bring anyone else back.
Both Horowitz and Kitsis further established the fact that Hook is already dead and the thought of bringing everyone else back into the real world should really be out of the question.
"Once Upon A Time" Season 5B returns March 6, at 8 p.m. on ABC.
