OnePlus Two Release Date, Specs Rumors: Coming in Q2 or Q3 of 2015

Chinese manufacturer OnePlus has given tech fans a pleasant surprise when it released its handset, the OnePlus One in 2014. The device was designed to give best-selling phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the HTC One M8 a run for their money, since the smartphone is equipped with top-of-the-line specs for less money.

When the smartphone was received with much enthusiasm, talks of a OnePlus Two immediately circulated online when an industry insider revealed that OnePlus was working on "Lettuce." Apparently, "bacon" was the company's codename for the OnePlus One, while "lettuce" is the codename for the next gen handset.

Carl Pei, the 25-year old co-founder of OnePlus, told PC World that the OnePlus Two is expected to make its debut in six months. Recently, in a Reddit AMA session, OnePlus Carl and David answered questions about upcoming devices from the company.

About the One Plus Two, Carl said "The OnePlus Two should be out in Q2 or Q3 of 2015. By that time, I'd think Android L would be the standard."

OnePlus also said that they would use the invite system for its next smartphone before accepting limited preorders. As seen before with the OnePlus One, a person needs an invitation before he can purchase a phone.

"It will probably be invite-only for a short period of time, after which pre-orders are rolled out," OnePlus wrote.

Pei also said that the company will create different models for European, Asian, and American markets to support a wider range of mobile data network bands.

Nothing has yet been confirmed about the upcoming device's specs, but Pei said that people will surely be surprised about the OnePlus Two. The phone is rumored to retain the 5.5-inch display of its predecessor, and the resolution will be upgraded to 2k. The device is also expected to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with 4GB of RAM and will run on OnePlus's own OS, the OxygenOS. The phone is said to cost somewhere between $350 to $450 once it is released.
