'Outlander' Season 2 News, Update: Show Casts Richard Rankin; EP Teased 'Bigger,' 'Different' Season
Despite the disheartening news indicating the delayed release of the second season of Starz's hit fantasy drama TV series, "Outlander" Season 2, fans are still excited to learn more about the upcoming show. One of the many updates that arrived lately indicates the casting of an actor who is set to play the grown-up version of a character in the series. Meanwhile, the show's boss gave delightful hints about the new season.
The report from Zap2it.com cited the network's announcement saying that the show has tapped Scottish actor Richard Rankin to play the role of Roger Wakefield. As described in the media outlet, Rankin's character is "the grown up version of Reverend Wakefield's adorable adopted son" with whom viewers met back in Season 1.
If fans could remember, the boy was raised under the care of the minister after his parents died in World War II. The site went on to reveal that Roger, who is now an Oxford professor, has a "keen interest in history, and all the secrets and insight it presents."

The Scotland-based actor recently appeared alongside Bradley Cooper and Uma Thurman in the 2015 movie, "Burnt." On the small screen, the theatre actor is slated to be featured in a BBC series called "Thirteen."
Meanwhile, executive producer Ronald D. Moore recently told The Wrap how he looked forward to a very different "Outlander" season. According to him, the upcoming chapter is "bigger and different."
"Season 1 was primarily in Scotland so it was Scottish castles, stone walls, heavy wood, more of a rustic world. Now we've traveled to 18th Century Paris, which was the most populous, most sophisticated city in the world at the time," Moore told the publication.
He went on to reveal that since Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) will be taking part in the Jacobite rebellion, the new season will now be more like a "political show."
"Claire and Jamie are plotting a conspiracy to stop the Jacobite rebellion, so it's a more political show, more historical currents of the time, we look at aristocracy, the court of Louis XV, so visually it's a whole different palette," Moore details further.
"Outlander" Season 2 premieres Spring 2016.
