'Outlander' Season 2 Spoilers: Richard Rankin Set to Play as Roger Wakefield
America-British drama series "Outlander" season 2 will be welcoming a fresh face in the cast as an important character in the storyline has already been filled in. According to Entertainment Weekly, Scottish actor Richard Rankin will be playing as Roger Wakefield.
International Business Times noted that Roger is one of the "Outlander" books' major characters, specifically in the Scottish-set saga, which means that his role in the show will probably be as important. Adopted by Reverend Wakefield (James Fleet) from the first season, Roger will now be a man in the next season. He was first introduced as a boy, played by Rory Burns, in the year 1940.
The Wrap detailed that after his parents died in World War II, the Reverend looked after Roger, along with the help of Mrs. Graham, the housekeeper. The older version of Roger is described to be "intelligent, kindhearted and charming." He will also be seen as a professor at Oxford and has a great interest in learning more about history and all the mysteries and insight it presents.
Aside from being known as a professor, Roger is also said to be Brianna's love interest. Brianna is the daughter of the show's main characters, Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe). This is based on the book of Diana Gabaldon, "Dragonfly in Amber." He is also said to be connected to the acquaintances of Claire from the 1700s. His ancestors are Geillis Duncan (Lotte Verbeek) and Dougal MacKenzie (Graham McTavish). And since he is under the bloodline of Geillis, he also has the power to travel through time.
Rankin will be joining the other new faces in "Outlander" season 2 and that includes Lionel Lingelser as King Louis XV, Rosie Day as Mary Hawkins, Dominique Pinon as Master Raymond, Margaux Chatelier as Annalise de Marillac and Stanley Weber as Le Comte St. Germain. Robert Cavanagh will also be joining the cast as Jamie's cousin Jared.
