Pittsburgh Penguins Injury Rumors: Sidney Crosby Sustains Injury to Lower Body, Listed Day to Day
The Pittsburgh Penguins have been dealt with a huge blow when head coach Mike Sullivan announced the injury to team captain Sidney Crosby. The forward missed Sunday's practice and the coach said that he has a lower body injury and is listed day-to-day.
The injury to Crosby happened on Saturday in the team's 2-1 loss against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Canadian professional hockey player left the game in the third quarter when he collided with Hurricanes defenseman Justin Faulk.
The two-time Hart Trophy winner has seen his production dip this season, having only made six goals and 16 assists so far in 32 games. The team isn't doing well, too, having lost five consecutive games. The Penguins haven't won a game under the guidance of Mike Sullivan.
The team also announced that Crosby will be subjected to further evaluation by Monday morning and they hope it isn't serious enough. With all the losses they have right now, it is evident that they no longer could afford losing their main man the rest of the way.
Losers of seven out of their past eight games, the team is struggling big time. When Mike Johnston was fired last Dec. 12, team officials thought Sullivan would be the perfect fit to end their woes, but after four games, he hasn't produced a single victory.
Looking at the bright side of things, though, Crosby's injury may be considered a blessing in disguise for a tired player like him. Taking a break means he'll be able to contemplate on the team's struggles and figure out a way to come up with victories once he comes back. But the question right now is: What if the injury figures to be a minor one and he's fit to play the next game? Will the Penguins coaching staff allow him to play or will he be given a break?
