'Player Unknown's Battlegrounds' News: Game Closes Another Milestone Ahead Of Xbox One Release
There's just no stopping Bluehole and "Player Unknown's Battlegrounds" as they are set to reach another milestone amid server issues and "Fortnite" allegedly making a "carbon copy" of their game.
The battle royale survival game is closing in on the two million player mark on Steam, just weeks after it broke the previous record of over 1.2 million players set by Valve's own "Dota 2." A total of 1.96 million players were recorded this weekend compared to just 716 thousand for the MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena).
With the game set to be released on the Xbox One later this year, reaching the two million dollar mark is only a matter of time. In fact, the numbers are already helping the game get on the good side of one of the world's largest video game publishers.
"Player Unknown's Battlegrounds" already has publishing support by Microsoft Studios with the company having exclusive console rights to the game until the middle of next year. However, Microsoft is reportedly planning to extend its PUBG exclusivity period which would delay the game's PlayStation 4 launch later in 2018.
While this doesn't sound like good news for PS4 owners, it is great news for Bluehole. Microsoft's resources are invaluable to the company especially after they experienced server issues due to the massive surge of players, particularly from Asia.
As for PC players, they'd don't really care for what happens as they are too busy enjoying the game in Early Access on Steam. Aside from the server issues, which were partly their fault, not much has happened to hinder their gameplay.
There is still the question of "Fortnite" allegedly stealing the idea for the game to make its own battle royale game mode. Bluehole has threatened to take legal action but so far, none has been taken by either developer.
"Player Unknown's Battlegrounds" is currently available for Microsoft Windows via Steam.
