'Pokémon GO' Release Date and News: Game Coming During Franchise's 20th Anniversary?
From the start of the year, fans have been waiting for the release of "Pokémon GO," and the excitement continues to increase as recent reports suggest that the game will be released in less than three weeks.
As first suggested by Neurogadget, Feb. 27 is a special day for the franchise and it will probably see the release of the augmented reality game. Genuine fans of the franchise should remember that Feb. 27, 1996 marked the day when the first original Pokémon games were launched.
The outlet says there are several reasons why Niantic may decide that Feb. 27 is the perfect date to release "Pokémon GO." One of the obvious reasons is it will be part of the 20th anniversary that many fans are very much excited to celebrate. It is already expected that big announcements and other releases will be made during the day, but buzz is hot around town that the much-awaited game may come along, too.

Reports last year suggested that the game will be released early in 2016. Coincidentally, at least for those who still won't buy the date, Niantic Labs will hold its Ingress Anomalies on the said date as part of the franchise's anniversary. During the day, players will be allowed to participate in events at several cities around the world.
What's more interesting is the Ingress Anomalies' chosen primary site: Rio de Janeiro. Could it be a coincidence that Pokémon's amazing, amazing Super Bowl commercial ad, which is by the way rumored to have cost in millions, was filmed in Rio de Janeiro? Probably not, but for those who strongly believe in the connections between random announcements and hints dropped by the developer and its publisher, Feb. 27 is really the most reasonable date to release a much-awaited game.
Other reports suggest that the game might not come on the said date since the franchise already has a lot on its plate. Some say "Pokémon GO" might be released next month, while some say it will come sometime later in the year.
