Powerball Winning Numbers for Sept. 24; Live Results for the $50 Million Pot; Schedule
Update – September 24, 2016 – 11:00 p.m. ET: The winning numbers for Saturday's Powerball jackpot are 7, 15, 20, 29, 41 and the Powerball is 22. The Powerplay is 2x.
With no lucky players to bring home last Wednesday's pot, the Powerball grand prize just climbed to $50 million for Saturday's draw, with a cash payout option of an estimated $33.6 million.
Recap of Wednesday's draw
Last Wednesday, the winning numbers were 1, 28, 63, 67, and 69, while the Powerball was 17. The Powerplay multiplier was at 4x. No lucky player was able to bring home Wednesday's grand prize, which was at $40 million. The cash prize was reset after a player from Atlanta brought home the $244 million jackpot on Sept. 17.
While the lucky streak for the jackpot prize seemed to have dead-ended then, one lucky player was able to match five white balls from last Wednesday's draw to bring home $1 million. He or she, however, did not avail of the multiplier option, which would have quadrupled his earnings to $4 million.
Twelve players were able to match four white balls plus the Powerball to win $50,000. One player availed of the Multiplier option, which multiplied his earnings to $200,000. Meanwhile, 191 players matched four white balls for $1,000, while 490 others matched three white balls plus the Powerball for $100. All in all, more than 348,000 winning players brought home cash prizes from Wednesday's draw for a total cash prize value of over $3.17 million.
How the Powerball works
For aspiring millionaires, the Powerball game is one way to do it. For $2, players can submit five numbers for the white balls from one to 68, and another number for the red Powerball from one to 25. They win by matching all five white balls in any order and the red Powerball number.
According to Powerball, the odds of winning the jackpot are one in over 290 million. Powerball tickets are at $2, while the Powerball option, which multiplies your earnings, is an extra $1.
Like the Mega Millions, there are nine ways a player can win the Powerball lottery. The grand prize is won by matching all five white balls plus the Powerball. The second prize, pegged at $1 million, is won by matching all five white balls.
Meanwhile, the third prize amounting to $50,000 is won by matching four white balls and the Powerball. The fourth and fifth prize can be won by matching four white balls or the three white balls and the red Powerball for $100, while the sixth to ninth prizes are less than $10 each. All non-jackpot prizes can be multiplied by availing of the Power Play option.
Powerball drawings are held twice a week, every Wednesday and Saturday, at 11 p.m. ET.
