Presidential Polls 2016 Update: Cruz Likely to Win Iowa; Clinton's Lead Slips
As the 2016 caucuses for Iowa draws near, a new poll reveals that Ted Cruz has a higher chance of winning the state's caucuses, as he leads Donald Trump with over 20 points.
In a new polls-plus forecast by Five Thirty Eight, Cruz is on top with 51 percent, compared to Trump's 29 percent, making it clearer that the businessman's run in the state is going to a direction that he has not expected.
The outlet accumulated percentage points through weighted polling averages, and with more recent polls being prioritized than the older ones to make the results much more reliable.

65 polls were collected from various outlets and election experts such as Selzer & Co., Marist College, Fox News, Quinnipiac University, Gravis Marketing, Public Policy Polling, and others.
In the most recent poll by Selzer & Co., Cruz leads Trump by 3 points. In other recent polls, Trump is leading the Republican race, while the rest of the polls put him in very close competition with Cruz.
Trump's figures have started to drop over the past couple of weeks, starting when he dished Muslims after the Paris terrorist attacks. He said the Americas shouldn't accept Muslim immigrants and refugees to avoid the same fate that the French capital suffered.
Meanwhile, the latest New York Times/CBS News poll reveals that Trump isn't the only one who might see an unexpected fall in the coming weeks as Hillary Clinton's lead over Bernie Sanders has started to drop as well.
Last month, Clinton led Sanders and his Democratic foes with a whopping 20 points in national polls, but the new poll clearly shows the fallback, despite the former Secretary of State being on top.
Clinton obtained 48 points, while Sanders followed behind with 41 points, putting a question mark at the support that the former First Lady is receiving from not only Iowa but the rest of the states.
Iowa will be holding its caucuses on Feb. 1.
