Prince William Abdicating Throne to Become Pilot? Official Word Expected Soon
Multiple reports have surfaced that Prince William plans to give up his full-time work as a Royal in order to pursue his passion as a helicopter pilot. The news comes amid public discontent at the cost of renovating Kensington Palace for William, wife Kate, and son George. Now, there is likely to be more upset with William's career decision, given that it will take him away from the spotlight.
"Prince William is quite free to abdicate and take an ordinary job, but if he wants to keep his hereditary job then he needs to do that job," Jeremy Corbyn, Labor MP for Islington North, told the Mirror. "It sounds like he wants the best of both worlds. The royals already have plenty of houses."
William has always had a passion for flying helicopters and served on the Royal Air Force's Search and Rescue team. He decided to spend more time with his family and focus on his royal career, but that has apparently not made him too happy, so he is heading back to the sky. He is likely to become an air ambulance pilot with the East Anglian Air company.

"It is perfect for him," a source told the Mirror. "He can combine royal engagements with spending time with his family and his passion for flying. He doesn't want to become a full-time royal at this stage in his life, but this will leave him open to criticism as he is enjoying all the perks of becoming a full-time royal. He will spend more time at his home in Sandringham, which will raise the question of exactly how much time he will be at Kensington Palace."
The renovations at Kensington have cost over $6 million, much to the chagrin of the public taxpayers who essentially paid for them. Now, to have the royal family move out so quickly is a shock. They will likely stay at Anmer Hall, their home on the Sandringham estate, which will keep them closer to William's work.
A formal announcement about William's decision is likely to come quite soon.
