PS4 Availability: Spare Parts for Sale in Japan, Could This Help Meet PlayStation 4 Console Demand?

Spare parts for the PS4 are now available in Japan, and the best question U.S. gamers can ask is, "Will this service be coming to North America?"

According to DualShockers, PlayStation owners can pick up HDD bay covers, bay brackets, power cords, and screw sets. The report also indicated that a similar service is available for the PS3 as well.

Spare parts for Sony's console could be advantageous to the company as consoles have been pretty scarce as of late due to demand. Instead of replacing entire consoles that may be broken or glitched, perhaps a gamer could simply find a replacement part to help fix the problem.

"We're struggling to keep up with demand," House said to Screw Attack. "Conservatively, as we get into the early summer months, we'll be closer to a full supply situation."

The Wall Street Journal reported that PS4's are being sold as quick as they come in at retailers such as GameStop.

A few weeks ago, Sony admitted their availability would be going down even further because of the release of the console to other regions.

"I can't work [the math] out precisely," said PlayStation U.K. executive Fergal Gara according to the Christian Post. "But based on what I've seen so far, I think it is going to be [hard to find a console] until around about April. You might get a fortnight or a week here or there where it is more available, but we should be back to free supply by about April ... That's our best guess. It might be a little earlier than that, or it might be a little later. But we'll get there."

Sony also recently announced the console reached their goal of selling over 5 million units by the end of the fiscal year, and are already over 6 million.

These great sales numbers were in spite of the console not being available in Japan until last month.

In other PlayStation 4 news, PSOne and PS2 emulation may be on its way to the console after an often correct Sony info leaker posted a few tweets concerning the manner last week.

PlayStation 4 enabling emulation will allow fans of the Sony console to play some of their favorite classic games from the '90s and on, as well as open up a new wave of gaming.
