Rapper Lil Boosie Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison, Baton Rouge Rapper May Face Death Penalty
Famed Baton Rouge rapper Lil Boosie will have to spend eight years in prison.
The 29-year-old pleaded guilty to three counts of conspiring to smuggle drugs into prison.
District Judge Maike Erwin gave Lil Boosie his sentence after he admitted that he tried to smuggle drugs into Louisiana’s Dixon Correctional Center and Angola State Penitentiary.

Investigators said he tried to smuggle drugs into Dixon Correctional Center once and into Angola State Penitentiary twice.
Local Baton Rouge television station WAFB reports that after the judge announced the sentencing, Lil Boosie, real name Torrence Hatch, requested drug rehab.
Judge Erwin said he would recommend rehab but could not order it.
Supporters for the rapper were seen hanging their heads low once the judge made a statement, according to WAFB.
Last June, Boosie pleaded not guilty to one count of first-degree murder, two counts of conspiracy to introduce contraband into a penal institution, three counts of possession with intent to distribute narcotics and three counts of conspiracy to commit possession with intent to distribute narcotics.
According to MTV, the first-degree murder charge stemmed from the October 2009 death of Terry Boyd. Boosie is accused of paying hit men to kill the 35-year-old man and, if convicted, he may face the death penalty.
During his stint behind bars, the East Baton Rouge District Attorney's office also began to build another case, trying to link him to five additional murders.
His murder, which is separate from the drug smuggling trial, is not set until next April.
Boosie will be given credit for the time he has already served in prison, although, if convicted of murder on separate charges, he may face the death penalty.
The rapper released his debut album in 2006 and he is known for his brash style. His hit songs include “Zoom” and “Wipe Me Down.”
