'Red Dead Redemption 2' News, Update: Rockstar CEO Eyes Western Shooter Game As The Next Permanent Franchise
Rockstar Games is often quickly associated with its hit video game franchise, the "Grand Theft Auto." The action-adventure title has been a staple for gamers for many years and its popularity never seems to slow down. However, the studio has other games in mind that they would also like to put on a pedestal. Topping their list is the open-world, western action-adventure game, "Red Dead Redemption."
Released in the US on May 2010, the third-person shooter game received a handful of critical acclaims as well as several accolades from major award giving bodies.
The report from MasterHerald.com pointed out Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Rockstar Games, as saying that aside from focusing on "GTA," the company has recognized the potential of RDR of becoming its new permanent franchise.
This confirmation from Zelnick led many people to believe that a "Red Dead Redemption 2" will be hitting the store shelves sooner rather than later. In fact, rumors indicate that the second installment might come out "next year" to the current-gen gaming consoles (PlayStation 4 and Xbox One) and on PC.
On top of all the excitement, Zelnick appears to be quite "proud and happy" for all the enthusiasm the fans have for the notion of having an RDR part 2.
As for the plot of the upcoming game, there are countless theories that have come out, with each claiming to be of more relevance than the others. Regardless of which, these pieces of information should be taken with a proverbial grain of salt.
For one, Crossmap.com said that RDR 2 might be set in Japan. Obviously, it will veer far from the theme of the original title, which is about the dry and arid desert of the Old West.
Another theory pointed out by the publication is the notion that the game, which is largely set in the Western part of the country, will move towards the East. With the railroads already connecting the different parts of the US, perhaps it would be easy to envision playing "Red Dead Redemption 2" with states like Kentucky, Alabama, or North/South Carolina (just to name a few) being featured.
Stay tuned for more updates.
