'Resident Evil 7: Biohazard' Moves Away From Macho Characters With a New Hero

Capcom has just announced the most awaited sequel of the "Resident Evil" franchise. During the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), a gameplay trailer for "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard" was previewed.

Demo Reveals Thriller Theme

Together with the release of the trailer, Capcom has also announced that the demo, "Resident Evil 7 Teaser: Beginning Hour," for the upcoming game can already be downloaded. However, the demo is exclusive to PlayStation 4 users only. There is still no update if it would be available for Xbox One and PC as well.

One of Capcom's staff, Koshi Nakanishi, has also mentioned that the demo will be available in the PlayStation store until the official game is released. It is purposely made to order for the players to experience the new environment of the upcoming sequel. The creators of "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard" mentioned that the demo will not be included in the final cut of "Resident Evil 7."

Capcom also made sure that the plot of the new "Resident Evil" installment is under wraps and did not even include some hints in the playable demo.

Reliving The Horror Genre

With six installments and a bunch of spin-offs, "Resident Evil" has lost its horror touch, It started in "Resident Evil 4" when the game was mixed with action.

In the demo, players will be given a chance to explore an old house. The next "Resident Evil" title will be set in an urban-rural location in the US. The game has also shown similarities with "Silent Hill" because the developers wanted to return to the game's horror roots.

A New Character Different From Previous Protagonists

The "Resident Evil" franchise has always had alpha male characters that focuses on their masculinity. An example of that is the muscular Chris Redfield. However, this may not be the case for "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard." Game producer Masachika Kawata said that there will be a new character in the upcoming game, who may not be considered as very masculine.

The demo, "Resident Evil 7 Teaser: Beginning Hour," is now downloadale exclusively for PlayStation 4. Meanwhile, "Resident Evil 7 Biohazard" is slated for a 2017 release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
