'Rick and Morty' Season 3 Premiere Date & Update: Expected to Return in 2017, 'Dog World' Theme Plot Speculated

American adult animated television series "Rick and Morty" is coming back for its third season. According to a report by Venture Capital Post, Adult Swim has already confirmed the renewal of the next season. However, there is no revealed date yet when the show might return to again bring in more adventures of the alcoholic mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his grandson Morty.

A previous report by iDigital Times suggested that the show will not be returning until 2017. Some are still hoping that it will be back by 2016 but until Adult Swim or creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland make an official announcement, the premiere date is uncertain.

There have also been some rumors going around that the "Rick and Morty" season 3 will have 19 episodes in total. However, Roiland denied the rumors himself when he posted on his Twitter account that he had no clue where the 19 episodes rumor started, as noted in KPopStarz. "Misinformation turning into news. Gotta love the Internet," Roiland wrote.

Another rumor that has been circulating is the plot of the third season. According to a report by Yibada, the latest "Rick and Morty" spoilers revealed that the third run of the animated show will be incorporating some old works by Roiland, particularly the "Dog World."

The "Dog World" is Roiland's 2012 unaired animatic TV series which tells the story about the affable Peter Michaels, his rude brother Edmund and their younger sister Sally, as reported in Movie Pilot. During a camping trip, the three are pulled in by a wormhole and they soon find themselves in a world where talking anamorphic dog people live.

If the rumors are true, "Rick and Morty" season 3 may no longer be doing some time-travelling. Instead, it will be going on a storyline that will involve a "Dog World" plot. But how will it take place after everything that happened in the finale episode of season 2?

Fans will just have to stay tuned for more updates on "Rick and Morty" season 3.
