'Riverdale' Season 2 Plot News, Air Date: 'Softer' Cheryl, 'More Intense' Betty in 'Sexier' New Season

The highly anticipated premiere of "Riverdale" season 2 is just around the corner, and fans can expect more character development in store.

First of all, Cheryl Blossom will be kinder in the upcoming season. This much was teased by Madelaine Petsch while speaking to TeenVogue.

"Cheryl becomes a lot softer on camera this season," the actress previewed. "You see a lot more of Cheryl. The breaks, the cracks in her façade. The walls come down in very interesting ways."

And while her character does go through a bit of a transformation, Petsch assured that Cheryl will still have some sassy remarks up her sleeve.

"She will continue to give the one liners, but there will be a little bit more camaraderie," she said, revealing that Cheryl will have more friends in the new season. She also said that the gang will be there to support her through times of trouble.

As for Betty, fans got a glimpse of her darker side in season 1, and it looks like there will be more of it in the new cycle. Also speaking to TeenVogue, Lili Reinhart teased that "Dark Betty" will be more than just a fleeting persona this time around.

"It's something much more intense and much more real than that," she said.

Fans love Betty and Jughead together, but the couple may be facing some problems in season 2. With Jughead now involved with the Southside Serpents, his attitude will change a bit and he will find himself at the center of more trouble.

"He's a lot angrier than he was in season one," Cole Sprouse, who plays the beanie-wearing character, told the same publication.

All in all, though, Reinhart sums up the upcoming season as an upped version of their debut cycle. She believes that fans will enjoy season 2 and become even more heavily invested in the characters.

"Season two is a lot more twisted in a way, and just kind of naughtier and sexier," she said. "But, also just more messed up."

"Riverdale" season 2 premieres Wednesday, Oct. 11, on The CW.
