'Rock Band 4' News: December Update Gives Players Brutal Mode, New Score Challenge Features & Better Combo Recognition
Harmonix has brought some holiday treats for the fans of music video game "Rock Band 4." According to Kotaku, the Cambridge-based company already dropped the game's big December update on Tuesday. And as expected, it is going to give players the toughest challenge yet.
PlayStation Lifestyle detailed that the update is designed to "put even the most hardcore players' skills to the test." Their playing ability will definitely be challenged with the new Brutal mode which is included in the game's free December update.
As noted in Lazygamer, the Brutal Mode will bring the game's difficulty level up to 11 and it will continuously monitor the gamer's performance. It will modify a song's note track to adjust to how well the gamer is playing. If they are able to perform at a consistently good pace, the game will begin to start throwing out more notes and it will be quicker and with a harsher sense of judgement. The source stated that some of the notes even fade out, thus players will need to have a good memory.

Most likely, those who will come out victorious in Brutal mode are those who have spent enough time playing the real guitar. In the teaser video release, it showed that those who can survive the increased difficult of Brutal Mode will be given the Crimson Stars, which is the newest reward higher than the Gold Star.
Aside from the Brutal Mode, gamers can also expect to see in the update some new score challenge features and better combo recognition. There's also a number of bug fixes that address calibration issues and many more.
Meanwhile, Shack News detailed that the Harmonix DLC machine will introduce three new tracks. Costing $1.99 each, the songs available include "The Coma Machine" by Between the Buried and Me, "Heir Apparent" by Opeth and "Nevermore" by Symphony X. The December update is now available for download at no cost.
