'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' Rumors: New Villain Rumored To Appear In Upcoming 'Star Wars' Spinoff

Little is known about the actual plot of the forthcoming "Star Wars" spinoff "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." Though avid fans already know who the actors are and what the film's main storyline is, there have been few clues about who the characters will be up against.

Now, "Star Wars" fan site Making Star Wars has come out with what may prove to be a major revelation about the film's villains - or, at least, one of them.

According to the site: "There is a bad guy or person of some importance to the Empire. His main feature is a huge majestic white cape with a slit in the back."

"In the film there is a beautiful shot of this Imperial treading through a shallow body of water with said cape trailing him," the report revealed. "The figure that wears it appears to be an older male."

"I'm told he has a badass sidearm and a really cool name," Jason Ward, the site's editor-in-chief, said. "We're fairly certain this is Ben Mendelshon's character but that's not 100% or verified at this time," he said.

Though the details may make it sound like the villain is Darth Vader, he's not the one being described in the report. The website has, however, previously reported that Darth Vader will be in the film.

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," which will be helmed by Gareth Edwards, follows a group of resistance fighters as they take on a mission to steal the Death Star plans. The story takes place just before the events of "Star Wars: A New Hope" (1977).

The film's confirmed cast members include Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Riz Ahmed, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Mads Mikkelsen, Forest Whitaker, Alan Tudyk, and Jonathan Aris. Principal photography for "Rogue One" began in August 2015 at Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire. The film is also reportedly being shot in the Maldives.

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is scheduled to hit movie theaters on Dec. 16.
