Russell Crowe News: Actor Talks 52-Pound Weight Loss and Ryan Gosling's 'Funny' Side

On Thursday, award-winning actor Russell Crowe talked about his weight loss and his latest stint with Ryan Gosling in "The Nice Guys."

According to People, Crowe revealed in his call interview with Australian radio show Fitzy and Wippa that he was 121.6 kilos before everything started to work out. "I was 121.6 kilos (268 pounds) the first week of August last year. I did a movie called The Nice Guys, so I wanted to be the physical juxtaposition of Ryan Gosling," he shared.

Over the past year, the Golden Globe awardee gained a lot of weight and some tabloids took photos of him in what could be his biggest body built yet. However, the actor has worked hard on producing his lighter form in seven months and he is currently about 98 kilos (216) pounds these days.

It was reported earlier that Crowe had to beef up so he can be fit for his role in the film. While some fans initially thought he was merely gaining weight like other Hollywood stars who went out of their healthy lifestyles, he revealed that he is "clawing [his] way back" into the healthier and much smaller frame that he had before working on the movie. He has lost 52 pounds over the past couple of months and he obviously isn't stopping to get back in shape.

Aside from his dramatic weight loss journey, the 51-year-old also talked about Gosling and his "funny" side that made the "Beautiful Mind" actor laugh many times. "He's [Gosling] really smart....The kid just knows how to make me laugh. He's very, very funny," he said.

A lot of stars are known for getting into their characters and changing their lifestyles or getting haircuts and such for a specific role. While some don't get back into their usual shapes, Crowe seems dedicated enough not only for the roles he is given but for his own well-being.

"The Nice Guys" features Crowe and Gosling as investigators who will look into the death of a porn star and the unsolved case of a girl who mysteriously went missing. Directed by Shane Black, the film hits big screens on May 20, 2016.
