Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Release Date, Specs Rumors: Front Facing Fingerprint Scanner And Improved S Pen Awaits

It seems it was only yesterday that fans were greeted with the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 but already, rumors about its successor the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 are already making their way online.

The South Korean tech juggernaut has had a stellar year in 2017 despite a number of incidents that rocked it earlier this year. With both its Galaxy S8 and Note 8, Samsung's mobile division racked up awards and five-star reviews from business insiders and tech websites.

However, innovation is constant which is why as soon as its flagships were out of the factories, work began on their successors. First off, is the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 which will come with improvements to the line's hardware as well reinstate some of its beloved features.

Chief among these is the return of the front-facing fingerprint scanner which was among the features that were either relocated or outright removed to accommodate an all-screen design. The scanner was right next to the camera which meant that users often had to scrub their fingerprints off the lens.

It's believed that Samsung is close to cracking the technology that would allow them to relocate the scanner to its original position although the company has not yet confirmed anything. However, failure to do so leaves them with either adopting Apple's 3D facial unlocking or leaving the scanner on its current location risking another wave of criticism.

As for confirmed changes, Samsung has revealed that the S Pen will indeed get some improvements in its next iteration on the Note 9. However, as for what improvements will be coming to the nifty accessory, neither Cue Kim nor BJ Kang of Samsung's Global Product Planning Group has provided any details during their interview with Samsung Newsroom.

While the company has yet to announce a launch date, early estimates peg the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 to be released in August or September 2018.
