Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Release Date, Specs Rumors: New Sensor Not in iPhone X to Be Seen in Note 9?

With the release and reveal of Apple's latest iPhone models, talk is now turning to Samsung and its upcoming Galaxy Note 9.

According to Business Insider, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed a critical feature that will be integrated into the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. Interestingly, this feature was initially supposed to come with Apple's iPhone X, but production issues caused the Cupertino-based company to exclude it from their latest smartphone.

This feature is none other than the "under-display optical fingerprint" sensor. As tech fans know, both Samsung and Apple have adopted the edge-to-edge display, leaving no room for a physical home button. In the past, fingerprint sensors were incorporated into the home button. This new feature places the fingerprint sensor right under the display, allowing users to unlock their gadget with a simple tap anywhere on the screen.

The publication stated that Samsung is already looking for a supplier for the new sensor. Kuo's note reveals that BeyondEyes and Samsung subsidiary Samsung LSI, both South Korean companies, have sent over sample parts to the tech giant. Another group, Egis, could also be taking part. Egis is known for being Samsung's supplier for the standard fingerprint sensor.

Despite the controversy that erupted over the Galaxy Note 7, Samsung has proved that support for their Note line has not waned. According to The Verge, Samsung announced that the Galaxy Note 8 had been pre-ordered more times than any past iteration in the United States.

In the past, Samsung was forced to recall the Galaxy Note 7 following news that the model's battery spontaneously combusts. Samsung has since discontinued the model, and there is no doubt that the company has upped its quality assurance.

As of now, no release date for the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has been announced. However, it is expected to hit the market sometime in the second half of 2018.
