Samsung Galaxy S7 Rumors: Next Iteration to Be 10 Percent Cheaper Than S6

Samsung Galaxy S7 rumors have made their rounds on the Internet as the 2016 release date moves closer, and now some reports claim that the flagship smartphone will be 10 percent cheaper than the Galaxy S6.

As of now, Samsung has not released the pricing details for the upcoming Galaxy S7, but the latest rumors say it will be 10 percent cheaper than its predecessor. The new flagship smartphone is expected to be launched in February 2016, according to the Indian Express.

The rumored pricing scheme for the Galaxy S7 comes as Samsung tries hard to regain its foothold in the flagship smartphone market, and it is expected to help the firm boost its sales in emerging markets. The Galaxy S6 series failed to capture the said market, so the South Korean tech giant is taking another shot at luring back the high-end smartphone consumer group once again from Sony, HTC, Apple, and other big rivals, the International Business Times reports.

The Samsung Galaxy S7's leaked benchmark scores also indicate that the device will have two variants that will each run on different processors. Sammobile says the unit will use Samsung's own Exynos 8890 chipset, while the second variant will use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 SoC, the report details.

Taiwan-based publication Economic Daily News also reported that the Snapdragon 820 chip's heating issues will be addressed by incorporating state-of-the-art cooling technology into the Galaxy S7. The Exynos variant, however, will not have this feature, the report explains.

As for the physical appearance, the Galaxy S7 will sport very little changes to its metal and glass design. Instead, Samsung will focus more on improving picture quality, performance, and other features of its flagship device.

There are also rumors saying Samsung will drop the micro-USB port in favor of the Type-C USB port. This move will align the Galaxy S7 with the Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, OnePlus 2, and other smartphones adopting the said port. In addition, Samsung's next flagship device will see the return of the micro-SD card slot.

So far, Samsung has not confirmed the exact release date for the Galaxy S7. More details about the specs, pricing, and launch date are expected to surface in the next weeks and months.
